His parents taught him at home before entering him in Spurling Gymnasium, where he was first in his class and graduated Summa cum Laude. After studying medicine at the University of Vienna, Freud worked and gained respect as a physician. Through his work with respected French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, Freud became fascinated with the emotional disorder known as hysteria. Later, Freud and his friend and mentor Dr. Josef Breuer introduced him to the case study of a patient known as Anna O., who was really a woman named Bertha Pappenheim. Her symptoms included a nervous cough, tactile anesthesia, and paralysis. Over the course of her treatment, the woman recalled several traumatic experiences, which Freud and Breuer believed contributed to her illness. The two physicians concluded that there was no organic cause for Anna Os difficulties, but that having her talk about her experiences had a calming effect on the symptoms. Freud and Breuer published the work Studies in Hysteria in 1895. It was Bertha Pappenheim herself who referred to the treatment as the talking cure. Later works include The Interpretation of Dreams (1900) and Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905). These works became world-famous, but Freud’s theory of psychosexual stages has long been a subject of criticism and debate. While his theories are often viewed with skepticism, Freud’s work continues to influence psychology and many other disciplines to this day. Influence Freud also influenced many other prominent psychologists, including his daughter Anna Freud, Melanie Klein, Karen Horney, Alfred Alder, Erik Erikson, and Carl Jung. In a 2002 review of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century, Sigmund Freud was ranked at number three. Jane Eyres Gothic Theme - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 622 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/05/18 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Jane Eyre Essay Did you like this example? Jane Eyre is a classic Victorian era literature masterpiece by Charlotte Bront. It was published in the year 1847, under Charlottes pen name Currer Bell. The novel combines the passionate fairy tale of a damsel in distress with a prevalent gothic theme that is heavily symbolized throughout the novel. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Jane Eyres Gothic Theme" essay for you Create order It tells a story of a woman who is struggling to find and maintain her self-worth in the rigid class structure. This at last leads to her developing independence and her willingness to voice her opinions in a society that advocates for submission in women (Bront 207). There are multiple elements of the gothic theme in the novel. The main Setting of the story is in an old eerily castle or mansion. Thornfield is a fine old hall, rather neglected of late years perhaps, but still it is a respectable place; yet you know in winter time, one feels dreary quite alone, in the best quarters. I say alone (Bront 182). Gothic themes are known for their preoccupation with dark and gloomy buildings that serve to elicit feelings of fear and uneasiness in the reader. It is always clear on who the occupants of the house are. There are secret passages and rooms and possibly old sections where people are forbidden from venturing into. Villains play a pivotal role in the Gothic themes. They often take the form of a male with autocratic, successful, charming and complex features. Mr. Rochester was a temperamental, married and manipulative man who used mental tricks to prevent his secrets from leaking out. Nevertheless, he desired to accomplish his goals, but his psychological conflicts prevented him. Despite his flawed personality, Jane fell in love with him. I had not intended to love him; the reader knows I had wrought hard to extirpate from my soul the germs of love there detected; and now, at the first renewed view of him, they spontaneously revived, great and strong! He made me love him without looking at me. (Bront 221) Literal artists use visions and nightmares to foretell and hint at events that are yet to happen. They create an air of mysteriousness, confusion and sublimity for the fear of the unknown. This is displayed when Charlotte describes Janes reflection in the mirror. All looked colder and darker in that visionary hollow than in reality: and the strange little figure there gazing at me, with a white face and arms specking the gloom, and glittering eyes of fear moving where all else was still, had the effect of a real spirit (Bront 21). Jane perceives herself as something unnatural, something she may turn into if she continued flirting with her dismal present. Perhaps the most significant and eerily element of supernatural activity in the novel was when Jane heard a strange and mysterious laugh. The laugh was repeated in its low, syllabic tone, and terminated in an odd murmur.(Bront 202). Janes paranoia and eagerness to find a ghost in the attic is unsuccessful when she is informed by Mrs. Fairfax, the housekeeper that the laughter came from a servant dwelling in the third-floor of the house. Dramatic events such as these are ultimately revealed to be a natural occurrence by the artist. A gothic story is not complete without the literal artist evoking the feeling of suspense and fear. It seemed, sir, a woman, tall and large, with thick and dark hair hanging long down her back. I know not what dress she had on: it was white and straight; but whether gown, sheet, or shroud, I cannot tell. (Bront, 540). Anything that align with the common happenings and explanations contributes to the mysterious atmosphere and fear of the unknown. This usually happens when the characters sees only a glimpse of something, heightening the feelings of fear.

Pro Wrestling Essays - WWE Hall Of Fame, American Christians

Pro Wrestling English 101 Mr. Lamore The Real World of Pro Wrestling ?If You Smeeelll What The Rock Is Cooking!? This saying used by The Rock has become a very regular saying amongst young men. For the reason, being wrestling has climbed out of the gutter from where it was in the late 80's and early 90' right back into the spotlight. It has retained its, popularity due to the fact it has attracted many different people from age, gender, and ethnicity. When people think about wrestling most of them will tell you how fake it is, but is it? There are variable myths that come to the mind of many Americans when it comes to wrestling. Yes it is true that punches are pulled, the winner of the match is already decided, and most of it is choreographed. So in a sports since wrestling is fake, but to a lot of blue collar Americans it really doesn't matter. Its a mans version of a soap opera. In that people are always changing sides, friends are turning on each other. Another thing that most people think is that all these guys are just pretty faces with no prior wrestling experience. That is false in the sense that most of these wrestlers were All-American wrestlers in college. The Stiener Brothers, Rick and Scott were accomplished All-Americans at Michigan. Mike Rotunda was a All-American at Syracuse. Kurt Angle was an Olympic champion in Atlanta in 1996. Something else that people do not understand is that wrestlers are on the road 300-320 days out of the year. So when it comes to them needing time off, there will usually be an angle where a wrestler will pretend to be injured to take time off. They may also be written out of the script completely until they are fully refreshed. Then they will usually come back with a big angle. Then there are times when the injuries are real. Due to the pain that a wrestler will work through to put on a show for us, thus many wrestlers usually will take some kind of pain killer. We are not talking about Motrin or Advil here. We are talking about Codeine and Morphine very powerful sedatives. Brian Pillman, and Rick Rude, both former world champions, died because they overdosed on painkillers. Many wrestlers have had to give up their careers due to their back being injured. A back injury most common injury to a wrestler. Which ?The Heartbreak Kid? Shawn Micheals, ?Stone Cold? Steve Austin, and ?The British Bulldog? Davey Boy Smith all had to retire from their back being injured. I reme mber the first time I finally realized that wrestling was fake. I was 12 years old and my brother took me to go and watch The Ultimate Warrior versus The Undertaker in Fresno, CA. The Warrior won by DQ. Then about a month later, I go to Las Vegas to visit my sister, and she takes me to go and watch a wrestling match. To my disbelief it's the same exact match which I saw a month earlier same moves same everything. Needless to say, I was heartbroken. Now what would wrestling be with out your Super Heroes or Villains. Today we call the Hero the face and the Villain the heel. The most popular wrestler of all time must be Hulk Hogan. Every kid I knew growing up said their prayers, ate their vitamims, and worked hard. Those were the Hulksters Commandments. Since Hogan has passed on. A different breed of heroes have emerged such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Sting. Now we can't forget about the bad guys such as Ric Flair, HHH, or Jeff Jarrett. Flair and The Four Horsemen terrorized the world of wrestling for most of the 80's and the early 90's, just like HHH and DX are doing to the WWF or Jeff Jarrett and the Young Blood are doing in WCW. It seems that all of the most notorious bad guys in the business ran in-groups such as The NWO, which consisted of such big names as Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall. Degeneration X or D/X as they are called (HHH, Road Dawg, X-Pac. One thing that I
